Unpopular Opinions Book Tag!

I’ve been wanting to do a book tag for awhile, but I haven’t been able to decide on which one until I saw this one!

I’ve been wanting to do a book tag for awhile, but I haven’t been able to decide on which one until I saw this one! The original tag is here.

1. A popular book or series that you didn’t like.
Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Oh man, so many people adore this book, so my expectations were pretty high going in, but it was so boring. I didn’t like the main character at all and I didn’t care one bit about his backstory. I know details of this book were supposed to be important in the next book, but this book still should have had a plot. I know a lot of people have said the writing is good, but I didn’t even notice it because I was so bored with the story. I could go on for ages 😂

2. A popular book or series that every one else seems to hate but you love.
I actually have two answers for this: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. There are obviously a lot of people who like both of these series, but I feel like they also get a lot of people who vocally dislike them.

3. A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you didn’t want them to.
Spoilers for the first few Throne of Glass books! My answer is definitely Chaol and Celaena!! I thought I was safe because they got together in the second book, but I was wrong. I totally understand how they wouldn’t work out further into the series, but oh man, I love this ship.

4. A popular book genre that you hardly reach for.
I don’t really know the difference between mystery/horror/thriller, but those are all things I never really reach for. I am a big old scaredy cat. This is a little funny though, because I’ve read two horror-ish books in the past month! (And yes, they both scared me)

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.
I don’t like Manon from Throne of Glass. I don’t actively dislike her, but I definitely don’t love her as much as most people seem to. In my reread of Heir of Fire, I totally skipped her sections 😳.

6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.
Cassandra Clare. I think that I would like some of her books, but the Shadowhunters universe is just so intimidating. Even if I wanted to read only one series, I feel like I would have read all the other books. I tried reading City of Bones last year and it just didn’t click with me.

7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.
I’m kind of tired of the typical YA fantasy story we’ve been seeing a lot. I know this isn’t necessarily a trope, but I feel like a lot of the YA books I’ve read recently follow a formula and it’s getting boring.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.
The Raven Boys
by Maggie Stiefvater. I actually don’t really know what this series is about, but I read Shiver by this author and didn’t enjoy it, so I wasn’t keen on picking up anything else by her.

9. What movie or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
I really hated Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, but I loved the movie! I was rushing to finish the book before seeing the movie and I was freaking out, thinking the movie would be as bad as the book!

What unpopular opinions do you have? Do you agree with any of these?

  1. I definitely recommend you check out The Raven Boys because it’s nothing like Shiver, and honestly just so much better in every way. Also, yes, omg I loved the movie adaptation for Crazy Rich Asians but I kind of hated the book. And I would totally watch the sequels and not read the books!
