Guinevere, a girl who knows magic, is sent to Camelot to marry and protect King Arthur. Magic is outlawed in Camelot, so she has to be very careful in her work, all while pretending to be Queen.

I want to say I am a fan of Arthurian legend, but all I really know of it is what I’ve seen from BBC’s Merlin, one of my favorite TV shows. That is what initially drew me to this book. I have to say, I definitely pictured the characters as the actors from the show!
I overall really enjoyed this book! It has some really fun things that made me not want to put it down. The magic is very cool, with Guinevere’s magic mostly consisting of magical knots, but there are other types of magic, as well as magical beings.
I also really like the relationships in this book, both platonic and romantic. Guinevere goes to Camelot not knowing a single person there, so she is very isolated. It was nice to see her get to know the people around her and slowly learn to trust them.
Women are strongest when bearing one another’s pain. We each take a little ourselves. No one dies, and we all heal together.

I also really like the romantic aspect of this book. Guinevere has two love interests in this book, as well as a third that I could see being a bigger factor in the upcoming books. I don’t think it is really a spoiler to say this, but one of the love interests is Arthur (they are married). I really liked seeing their moments together when they are alone. They have a few things in common, so they can understand each other.
I don’t really know how to describe this, but the overall vibe of the book was enchanting. It was magical, but a little dark, and at the same time, fun and kind of romantic. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that has the same type of feeling that I got from this book.
One thing that I didn’t really love was the ending. It felt just a little rushed, and some of the explanations were a little too easy, if that makes sense. Maybe they will be expanded upon in the next book, but it just felt off to me.
There were still a fair amount of unanswered questions by the end of this book, so I am definitely looking forward to the series. It set up the next book really well! In some series, the books feel very separate, but I think this series will flow very well.
I don’t even know if there is any info on the next book in the series, but I am definitely looking forward to it! I really couldn’t put this book down and it feels pretty unique compared to the other YA fantasy I’ve been reading recently.
