A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson

Everyone in Fairview knows how beloved high school senior Andie Bell was killed by Sal Singh, who then killed himself. Pippa doesn’t think the evidence adds up, so she decides to investigate the five year old case for her senior project. However, things take a turn when it’s obvious someone doesn’t want her digging into the facts.

This is not a book I would pick up by myself, but I am so glad that I read it for the Barnes & Noble YA Book Club! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I was hesitant at first, but I got so drawn into all the facts and interviews. This story has multimedia elements, showing interviews, emails, notebook pages, and write-ups. Almost as soon as Pip starts investigating, there are people who stick out as questionable. There are so many connections between people that were seemingly unrelated and I could not put it down until I knew the truth of what happened.

Pip is joined by Ravi, Sal Singh’s younger brother. I absolutely loved the dynamic between Pip and Ravi, as well as Ravi himself. He was just such a genuinely nice person even though the whole town hates him and his family for being related to an alleged killer.

I was definitely a little creeped out, especially when Pip starts getting threatening messages for her to stop looking into the case.

I was so satisfied with the ending of this book! It was such a creative ending and although it was different than what I expected, it made sense.

The one possible draw back for me was that Pip deals with a lot of self-identify issues. She is trying to write a college admissions essay, but she doesn’t know who she is outside of homework and studying. I think there could have been more done with this aspect of the book, but honestly, I was more interested in solving the case than Pip’s life.

I saw that there is going to be a sequel (and possibly more) and I am super excited for it!! It sounds really cool and I would love to see Pip and (especially) Ravi again.
