So I am totally copying this idea from Elliot Brook‘s Ranking Every Book I Read This Quarter video! I thought it was just such a fun idea because I’ve had a huge variety of feelings toward everything I’ve read so far this year.
Without further ado, here are the books I’ve read so far in 2020 ranked from least favorite to favorite! (Note: * indicates it was a reread, italics indicates that it was released in 2020)
28. Reverie by Ryan La Sala
27. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
26. Crave by Tracy Wolff
25. Dark Hollows by Steve Frech
24. The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms
23. Goldenhand by Garth Nix
22. Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton*
21. Love Her or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey
20. Burnout Generation by Anne Helen Peterson
19. The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson
18. Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson (part one, part two)
17. Loveboat, Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen
16. Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan
15. Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan*
14. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas*
13. The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare
12. The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare
11. The Governess Game by Tessa Dare
10. Borderline by Mishell Baker
9. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
8. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
7. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne*
4th-6th. Heartstopper* volumes 1-3 by Alice Oseman
1st through 3rd:
Ash Princess*, Lady Smoke*, and Ember Queen by Laura Sebastian!
I really couldn’t put these three in order because I loved them all so much and I think they all work so well as a series. In my head, I think of them as a whole story rather than separate books.
Goodreads Comparison
In Elliot’s video, she compared her rankings to how the books were rated on Goodreads, so I did the same thing! (I’m sorry if you are looking at this on a phone, the columns are supposed to be next to each other to make it easier to compare them)

This is really interesting because my top picks, the Ash Princess series, all ended up way lower on the Goodreads list. I was also surprised to see that the Girls of Paper and Fire series ranked so low on Goodreads. I read two books by both Sarah J. Maas and Brandon Sanderson, and all of them placed much higher on the Goodreads ranking than on mine.
Make sure to check out Elliot’s video and channel! She does her ranking starting from the middle, which I think is really cool! Also, I just love her videos in general 😁
Were you surprised by any of my rankings or how they were ranked on the Goodreads side? What are the best and worst books you’ve read so far this year?

I think this is a wonderful idea and I think I might just do a version of my own, if you don’t mind! And I really need to check out Ash Princess! HOEAB is among the best books I’ve read this year as well as Skyward and The Book of Essie – and the worst I just DNFed!
